My wife was just in a bumper bashing with a guvment official. Fikkin idiot pulled out in front of her at the last minute. He refused to give her any of his details, not even his name. He insisted that they wait for "backup" :wtf:

My wife just took photo's of him and his vehicle and left because she had to fetch our kids from school. The tow truck driver tells her she is going to be arrested for leaving the scene of an accident.

Its my understanding that unless someone is dying or dead you may leave the scene and you have 24 or 48 hours to report the accident. I shudder to think of what would have happened had my wife waited for this idiot's backup to arrive.

I think she probably should have waited or called police or something, but I'm not sure.

Scare tactic... if its a bumper bashing and nobody is hurt, you are required to exchange details then you can go on your merry way. Just be sure to do accident report within 24 hrs at any coppo station!

Should be fine. Call insurance co if in doubt...they have experience with this sorta stuff.

No one was injured? As long as she report the accident to your nearest cop shop within the next 24 hours she's covered.

Yup, what he said.

Tow truck driver is a moron. Haven't yet met one that isin't.

I think it's different with a cop car though.

No need to worry. Minor accident, nobody injured. She's got pics of car and person. Just go and report it at police station.

She did the right thing, but at best she should have left him with her name and a landline number.

yea, she gave him those details. His supervisor phoned today, and we got his ID no, and Licence no. I'm sure that they are not his, I dont think he had a licence to begin with.

Well you have a photo of the cop so maybe you can confirm it.

Have your your wife make an affidavit that the guy refused to give her his details.

My wife's car was rear ended by an unmarked cop van. Our insurance covered it - the car was written off, but in the process I was told that the government doesn't insure their vehicles. If you want to, you have to lodge a claim with the state!

@R13 Those details could be for anybody. The affidavit will cover her that little bit more!!
