Burglar Bars - Advice?

Well there’s a simple solution to that. Most new systems have auto-arm functionality anyway.

Besides do you want all you **** stolen quietly and find out when you get home with someone potentially waiting for you?

Or do you want some stuff stolen as they grab it before they run?

Even better would be an alarm + bars so it triggers before they get in. Which also solves your insurance problem somewhat as those bars are always armed.

Oh I have no issues with an alarm and have one.... but my insurance company doesn’t know that on the policy... I have burglar guards and gates all over the place

Aah I see what you did there.

Mine only stipulated the alarm clauses if you forego the burglar bars.

Burglar bars stop no half-decent criminal. Even bergie types.

If it is just for insurance purposes, buy the mid of the range.

However, for proper security, get garden beams.

Just be wary of the alarm aspect... insurance will invalidate a claim if you are broken into and the alarm isn’t armed

This is correct - but depends on what insurance you have. It's why I don't go for Outsurance - they need a fully functioning and armed alarm system to pay out.

My thoughts are that if my alarm was functioning, why would I have been burgled?

Also, if you happen to step out to the shops for 15 minutes or so, and do not prime your alarm system, they will not pay out.

Don't they also require the alarm to be connected to armed response like Adt etc?

With our insurance (compendium) it costs about an extra R30 per month to have the alarm system removed from the policy.

So worth it for the piece of mind in case someone forgets to arm the system...

Usually yes.

Alarmed policy would most likely be lower premium over just burglar bars.

And you can setup auto arming on most systems.

Auto arming is not available on all alarms systems. It is a relatively new feature.

I did not say all.

And we are going with the OP having a brand new setup so it would be new.

Mine is 7+ years old and offers it, although not activated.
