In the Namibian desert...
It was a weekend of unbridled fun over in our corner of the Namib desert this past few days.

It was the local Diamond Festival. This yearly event attracts a number of stall holders pimping their wares and then the outsiders who flock to the town for a drunken good time.

These folk party the desert nights away, knocking back jolly juice until the early morning light!

Some folk head down to our barren desert beach and take the three kilometer drive over the thick sands to view the once mighty Orange River mouth.

The tale goes that two chaps from the Caprivi at the other end of our country decided to bring their beach buggy along and went down to see the mouth of the river.

The sand was thick and they battled to get back to the interior and to the safety of hard ground, so they decided to drive along the beach to find "harder" sand.

As they drove along, right next to the cold Atlantic Ocean, a rogue wave decided to give them an expensive experience that they would not forget and promptly turned the bug upside down before drawing the fibreglass beast into her watery bosom.

The two lads managed to escape, albeit it barely and our weekend tourist attraction was created....

Unsure what to do, the two wandered off in search of assistance. The rising tide had other plans.....

Here along the desolate Namib coast, mini disasters can turn into a major incident rather rapidly....as our two visitors were about to find out.

When they returned a few hours later, the raging Atlantic had decided to build a sandcastle with their once mighty beach buggy and promptly buried her upside down under the wet beach sands...

For the rest of the day, both tourists and locals alike flocked to the beach to see the buried bug on a beach!

Did you rescue the bug? It probably needs a polish but I’m sure it’s probably fine otherwise.

I am still looking for a photo after the bug was winched out of it's sandy grave, but I have it on good authority that the vehicle was now the height of it's four tyres......
