Can you run a business using a MacBook? No, is my answer. My experience with a new MacBook, which turned out to be a complete and utter lemon, and my battle with Apple's derisory customer service nearly sent me bananas, lost me thousands of pounds worth of freelance journalism and consultancy work, and left me with a burn mark on my arm. This camel's back was truly broken.

I have been through 8 PC laptops, mostly Dell's and have now switched to MBP. I am very happy and will not go back to PC.

Maybe you should try one out before passing judgment?

Leaving your notebook carging on the floor under a sofa while you have toddlers around is just irresponsible. It probably got something spilled on.

Seems to me Apple initially dropped the ball (customer service wise) but they made up for it.

I've played around with a MacBook and didnt like it (feels too much like a toy). The only problem I've had with the laptops was the shoddy DVD drive CDRW combo in a Dell Inspiron.

If she signed a form to drop charges, she might have bigger problems after that article

So much for MacBook's being so great.

Yeah isolated person experiences are a good way to judge an entire product line or even a company.

At a previous employer we used to get mostly HP laptops. In a shipment of 10 laptops, 9 of them didn't work out of the box and the remaining one eventually had to be sent back for a motherboard failure.

I wouldn't use a single incident to judge an entire product line. If I did, I'd still be using an old Asus P3 600Mhz (still running like a demon). MacBooks are plagued with the same problems as all the other laptop manufacturers. I just wouldnt use any of Apple's mobile systems, personal preference. Their Mac Pro, and G5... now those I would use.

Maybe it's a built in function to burn coffee beans?

:D

Thought that as well...

Same here. Got a batch of HP laptops, one's HDD controller died... rest is still working fine after a forced reinstall of winXP...

When I worked for an IT company we sent, over time, about a third of all the HP notebooks we sold, back for a motherboard replacement. My own HP (knowing what I know and knew then already, I cannot imagine what possessed me to buy an HP) has been in for repairs twice, and the motherboard is failing again.

Their quality control is rubbish.

Another issue I have with HP laptops is that I'm always disappointed with their performance. They never seem to deliver what their hardware specs suggest. I see it even on a fresh Windows install - from the HP CD or a from retail CD with the newest drivers from HP's website - makes no difference.

Apple laptops are known for their heat. In fact some suppliers make a small sheet to put under it for use on your lap.

MBP are pretty good...but u're also basing your judgement on almost one brand of pc(laptop)
Ever tried an asian brand laptop? Asus, acer, BenQ etc etc?
;)

Well he did say mostly all dells - implying he's basing his judgement on more than one brand.

Many mac users are like me - through the years I've owned Dells, Toshiba's, HPs . . . if it's my choice I'll always go for a mac these days.

That why I said "almost" one brand ;)
To counter his "mostly"

I agree macbooks are quality...but its not as affordable as some pcs.
But the again its all depends on personal preference :) I like asus! :p
