-okay if this is the wrong category, apologies. I have a video (1080p HD) on pc i'd like to copy to a dvd so i can watch on tv with the dvd player but the file type is MKV(Matroska) and in the folder there are also other files like the subtitles etc. How do i copy it so all things work together, do i just copy the one folder on to disc or what?
-Whats a good program?
-and the dvd player says it can play 'DVD/VCD/CD' i dont know if that means anything. Sorry i'm new to this.
Thanks DB

You will have to convert from MKV to DVD-Video format.

Here are two links that will help you - great sites for everything video. From the first link:

This guide show how to encode multimedia content using the matroska container format (MKV files) to DVD-Video to view on pretty much any stand-alone DVD player. Unlike other guides we have that would work for this process, this guide uses only freely available software.

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_mkv_to_dvd_with_freeware.cfm

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/all-in-one-dvd-converters

I've never converted from mkv to dvd. I'm sure other posters will be able to give you more specific instructions.

Try convertX to DVD but you will need a dual layer if the file is big!

+1 for ConvertXtoDVD - the latest version let's you run a two-pass on the video and it works great (you must enable it though in the settings - disabled by default) - it reduces the MKV video size without much loss, to the DVD VOB format. I do the same with my series in MKV when I can't stream them directly, and can easily fit 5x 1-hour episodes on a DVD-5 disc and 10x 1-hour episodes on a DVD-9 disc...using the two-pass of course ;)

Won't you have to resize the entire video? DVD players cannot play HD content.

Nero 10 Vision can also do mkv to DVD, I find that Convertxtodvd doesn't compensate for NTSC to PAL framerate conversions, so after awhile of watching the movie the video and audio go out of sync, Nero does compensate.
