Burning bridges

There was a dude I knew who was a total dick but not in a really bad way but a really irritating way
One day I told him to fsk off and blocked him on fb etc :p
Few months later I bumped into him at a local gathering and surprise surprise he wasn`t a dick anymore
so now we`re cool... I think

Sometimes it is unavoidable to burn a bridge, especially when your boss is sour grapes that you resigned and gets all pathetic and petty. It is amazing how some business people conduct themselves when things don't go their way. As an employer you can't takes someones resignation to heart or get all personal over it. obviously that is assuming that said resignation was done adequately with no hard feelings.

In general it's not a good idea. The world is a small place and you run into people all over the show. In extreme cases like the above mentioned company involved in crime I can see the benefit.

I burnt the bridge with my previous employer. I resigned..the very next day when I came into work they told me to take my stuff and f*** off.

I took them to the CCMA today because they now refuse to fill in forms to allow me to get my pension

Sorry to hear that dude. I hope you get it sortet. I am pretty sure the CCMA will be able to assist.

I had a similar experience. Its not nice, and what got me was how personally they took it. Was amazing, within a few days of me leaving half the company had deleted me off Skype, as if to say "f uuuuuuuuuu". Like really childish stuff. Not to mention they refused to pay me my commission for the 3 months that I was owed.

Well in this example, a client I worked at a couple moons ago heard about the retrenchment saga that was occuring at my workplace and offered me a position. As I understand my current employer is still helping out with some maintenance but no contract has been signed between the two (previous agreement lapsed and was sub-contracted to the company so no direct link contractually between company and client).

Now it's a real di*k move I know :(. The offer would expose me to new technologies and is alot closer to home.. :(

Yeah... it's not really a d*ck move at all. Nor is it really burning a bridge. If they take a move badly, it's really them that are burning a bridge.

Well already typed out my resignation letter and have a meeting with the team lead next week.
Hopefully they take it well..will update.

Good luck
One of my past employers also took it personally. It happens a lot actually. Its silly because I leave because I take their empty promises personally

Just found out that a couple other people have resigned to go to the new place and it seems inevitable that bridges shall be burned as it looks like we were poached :(.. Will see what happens at the meeting though.

Found out that we wont be getting bonuses, no christmas party and increases might not happen :( if I do stay at the old company.

Time to go then... each man for himself. I can handle no party (and little bit of no bonus), but no increase ? Nope, prices increase but you get no increase...

You are actually doing them a favour resigning. It's one more person they don't fork out retrenchment costs for or worry that you will take them to the CCMA

If you leave then it saves 1 other person from getting retrenched, only to find 2 weeks later you leave and then the company has to fill a vacancy as they would be short staffed. Be a man. Save yourself (as well as others) the headache and move.
