Hi All,

Just wanted to know if ADSL is in any way burstable?

My current satellite connection is a 64k line but I regularly surf @ 20-25k/s and I burst up to about 40-50k/s (on special occasions) ...

I know something like a dial up modem can not be urstable due to the technology involved.

So where does ADSL fit in ?

The only bursting you will find with Telkom's ADSL is the bursting of your wallet...

ROFL.

I thinks this is classic. With all due respect Mr Blob, ADSL's design has been crippled by Telkom. Will we ever see the true speed of ADSL in SA.

i downloaded a 1 gig file from local site. it could have been a heart beat flatline, it did not move above 54Kb/s nor under. Def no burst's not even at night when there is available bandwidth.

Ok but IN THEORY it would be possible .. my satellite reciver has 32, 8Mbit channels ... If Only .. and if the ADSL modem is capable of doing 8Mbit down .. then it could work ... I guess thius answers my question if this is the same as a normal modem , which I guess it is not since the 56k modem is at maximum ...

Just imagine .. Telkom has no ISDN/ADSL/Satellite, we all have to use dial up modems ... with 28,8 connections (Burstable to 56k) and we all have a 30Mb CAP ...

I still remember downloading from BBSs with my 9600Bps modem and getting excited hwen I could use the ZModem protocol to get a FULL 1k/s instead of 100b/s with the XModem :)

Yeah and downloading a 1MB file, without problems, was almost unheard of. Kind of like we have now :)
