So I've been looking at upgrading my PC, I'll probally wait until the new intel ivy bridge but in the mean time I want to know, if your CPU bus speed tops at 1333 MHz am I wrong in thinking that the max ram bus speed can only be 1333 MHz. I see people with 1600+ MHz but I can't seem to find a CPU with anything higher than 1333 MHz bus speed. Please can someone clear this up

In short, you can overclock your FSB to higher clock speeds and thus increase the RAM speeds that you can use.
With the iX's, they have dropped the Front Side Bus and instead now have an onboard memory controller, most of which are 1333. This I'm assuming is also overclockable to higher speeds.

Probably best to wait and see what is going to happen with the new Intels.

Cool thanks that does make more sense now. If I were to get 1600 MHz RAM and not OC the bus or the mem controller, would it just use it at 1333 MHz?

There is only a blck, which you cant change very much. But there are seperate multipliers for RAM and CPU, so you can still easily set everything to the speed you want (assuming its stable of course).
