hey all a few questions hopefully someone can help.

I run a little internet cafe (5 machines) just after adsl came out i installed the service. The international connection was useless yahoo and hotmail taking ages to load. after 1 month i had to remove the adsl(it was killing my business). I never hit my cap, when i gave up the line i had about 1.5 gig left.

a few peeps have told me the service has improved alot, and i spoke to telkom support and he says they never receive speed complaints from uncapped users, and the service is much better than it was originally, now he also told me that u connect internationally at 512 which i doubt.

so the question to all of u is, ^^is this true^^ ??

how is the international service ??

are there any other permanent broad band services with a good international connection??

the last favour i want to ask is if someone with the 512 service could do a upload and download speed test for me at pc pitstop and post their results??
the links are as follows.

download speed http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/Bandwidth.asp

upload speed http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/BandwidthUp.asp

any help with the above would be very much appreciated

thanks shaun

Hi

I am at work at the moment, thus the speed tests won't work now. I do however use Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail from time to time and it is always fast. The speed from overseas depends entirely on the source you are downloading from. I doubt you will constantly hit the 512 speed 100% of the time. But it is much faster than dialup suffice it to say.

I hope somebody can give you a proper test. I logged in via REALVNC and did the test on my home PC from work.

This is what I got:

Download Bandwidth Test Results
Download speed: 159 kilobits per second

Test details: 101 kilobytes downloaded in 5.068 seconds.
Receive buffer size: Not available

NOTE, I WAS DOWNLOADING VIRUS UPDATES AND VIEWING MY DESKTOP OVER THE INTERNET AT THE SAME TIME SO THE RESULT IS WAY BELOW WHAT IT SHOULD BE!!!!

;o)

Cheers

Here you are... hope this makes you happy - I'm somewhat surly, cos I had to install ActiveX on a once-clean Windoze machine to do this for you...

Download speed: 368 kilobits per second
Test details: 402 kilobytes downloaded in 8.732 seconds.

Upload Bandwidth Test Results
Upload speed: 169 kilobits per second

thank u both very much, u might just have saved my life ;)

mbs, i appreciate the possible death of your machine, im sure the gods will smile apon u for your unselfish gesture and bless u with heaps of good karma, and a machine free of spam, spyware, virus's and adware. ;)

Hi

These are the results as is without other downloads and crap.

Download Bandwidth Test Results
Download speed: 365 kilobits per second

Test details: 402 kilobytes downloaded in 8.797 seconds.
Receive buffer size: Not available

For some reason I cannot do the Upload test. I disabled everything...

;o)

Greetings

Hey ANT - the upload test needs something to upload (obviously, hehee :)), and it does this with an ActiveX control, for which Pitstop installs a proggie. Hence my moaning about a 'once-clean' machine. Ah well, SHN8V has made amends by boosting my karmic aura...
