I want to do a Business Analyst certification/course.
Which course/cert is the most reputable one seen by South African employers?

Seconded...they strongly recommend you have been doing the job for a year or two before registering for the diploma. There is also a certificate course which is more introductory.

Thirded.

It's also the only course you can take.
Don't worry, it's pretty easy to pass it.

Definitely FTI. The course is more valuable though if you are able to apply the concepts and techniques at work. If you are not a BA yet, I'd suggest you arrange with someone at work to run with a small project. This will enable you to directly apply what you learn to real life situations.

How much is the FTI BA Diploma course nowadays? Last I heard it was about R30k.
IIRC, it was about R16k when I did it in 2006.

Was 36k in 2012, I think. It's difficult to remember when your employer pays lol

Was 30k a pop in 2012 though with a group discount. Company sent a dozen people through.

Anyone know any other certifications I can just write an exam without any of the above requirements

:wtf:

What employer is going to respect a qualification you got through a certificate mill?
Most certifications you go write at a Vue or prometric certification center and are independent of the training institutions or certifcate mils as you put it.IMO what is important is aptitude, motivation and willl to do it.

Also I want to become an analyst developer. So not looking for hectic requirements. I don't want to pilot the space shuttle. I just want to study and apply my existing knowledge of being in IT projects in writing an exam.

Then you don't need the IIBA qualification. IIBA endorsed training such as those offered by FTI should be good enough. There are also IIBA endorsed online options which is probably cheaper than FTI courses.

Do all business analysts fancy themselves as software developers ?

No. I personally don't know any that do. Even though some can code, they'll likely be the first to admit that they're nowhere near as good as a specialist software developer.

FTI

I think the course is way overrated, especially for the price.

What bothers me is that anyone will pass the course quite easily. With me in class were people that did not even know the definition of a BA when they started and they passed without too much effort.

No dude doing that would just completely water-down the industry. These certifications actually mean something precisely because they require you to be truly knowledgeable AND experienced.
