Would like your opinions on business consultants.

I have a business that operates in the automotive industry, so far i have made good progress just through word of mouth but i would like to be more pro active in sourcing more business, in other words, marketing.

i feel like i need someone who is a professional that can consult me on how to reach my target market in the automotive industry which is mostly panel beaters to be specific.

What i dont know is if i am wasting my time looking for a good business consultant? im afraid they are like lifecoaches, leeches that couldn't make it in life but act like they know everything and take desperate peoples money.

so what are your takes on Business consultants and do you have any experience with good ones? especially ones that know the automotive industry as automotive is its own little world and you cant approach it in a by the book university taught corporate way, you kind of have to know how these people think, what they read and what they want to hear.

If people are still paying them if they're that useless, surely these are exactly the people you need to help you grow a business?

Sounds more like you just need to market yourself. Without knowing exactly what you are doing, it's hard to give specific advice. For example let's assume you run a tow truck business... I don't think a business consultant is going to help jack unless you have an issue with efficiency. Here simple social marketing will help you a lot.

So ya, without knowing what you do, any advice is really a guess but sounds like you just need to market yourself... which you don't need a business consultant for.
