Anyone else seen this?

"The websites appear to have jolted Sentech into action. The company has agreed to have the technical problem fixed by Monday and communicate with all affected customers, in return for the transferal of the domain names to it."
and "The bandwidth problem, which had affected fewer than 1% of MyWireless's customers, would be rectified by Monday, Potgieter said."

a) fixed by MONDAY?
b) transferal of the domain names'??

Methinks my post featuring all those other variations on www.sentechreallysucks.co.za etc etc, - all those alt URLS, should be grabbed by forumites ASAP.. so that Sentech are from here on, kept on the defensive..
They cant keep trying to stop new URL's popping up. There's more sneaky domain name variations than Sentech figure is possible. Forumites, go grab some..

1% of their customers??? I think not - if one assumes that MyWi has 1500 subscribers at present then that assumes only 15 subscribers are getting crap speeds...when one looks at the "poor speeds form" topic LoneGunman posted a while back, there's easily 20 names on that list - and those are just the people that know about this forum!!

Methinks TheRodent should talk to BusinessDay and refute Mz Potgieter's claims!!!

I'd love to hear Rodent's response to this ... I didn't realise that the "FIX" was contingent on him transferring the domains ....

The websites appear to have jolted Sentech into action. The company has agreed to have the technical problem fixed by Monday and communicate with all affected customers, in return for the transferal of the domain names to it.

Basically ... transfer the domains or we'll keep giving fscked service ... I do hope that this is simply the journalist forgetting to dot his i's....

Also, interesting that the fix is slated for Monday ... mmmm .... I thought Friday was a "GOOD" day ;-)

I think its worth showing the Business Day that Ms Potgieter told us that the problem will be solved by friday and that she now goes back on her word and says that it will be fixed on monday.

Silly cow!

Rodent: Well done! Obviously many people will be visiting Sentechsucks.co.za now, maybe its worth putting a contact email/URL so that people can find their way to the forum from the site (just an idea, use or don't)

:)

time for folks to email Potgieter asking her to clarify and comment on the suggested 'blackmail' within the notion of fixing of the network in exchange for the transferal of domain names..

I notice while searching through various sites on 'how to register domain names' that no one seems to have registered 'sentech.org.za' apparently - unless Im reading it wrong. Gee, R300 bux gets you it - hmmm..

The ORG.ZA domain is for South African non-commercial organisations, including but not limited to charities, NGOs, Section 21 companies, trade and industry associations, trade unions, political parties and religious organisations.

Would we qualify ;-) hehe[8D]

I belive a .com would be good or a domain in africa somewhere like .ao, then they have no legal standing to pull it down ?

Keep Surfing

I think we're clearly a non-commercial organisation. We are selling nothing, and advertising nothing. Therefore we are the perfect example of a 'non-commercial organisation' :)

A question, and this is gonna sound real stupid - but bear in mind Im a loudmouth with some disposable income, and a chip on my shoulder - so could the tech-net-savvy guys please post the url(s) and steps needed, in order to register a local *.co.za domain?

(Yes, I think seeing as Rodent has done step 1, and gotten some whining and reaction from Sentech, it's up to others to go to step 2, and grab a couple of domain names which
a) sentech wont like, and
b) will continue to provide useful info for potential sentech customers,
c)spread the disatisfaction,
d) can provide some fun articles in the media.. (if this costs a couple of hundred bucks to achieve, hell, I'm game - its cheaper than a newspaper advert)

So looping around, tech-savvy folks - what's the url(s) for checking available domains, and the precise steps for registering new .co.za domain names?

In order to register almost any domain you need operational DNS servers. There are a few "free" ones out there.

Once they are configured you complete a form with the relevant registrar : http://co.za
They invoice you (R150.00) and the rest is history ;-)

If you'd rather leave the techical aspects then most ISP's handle domain "parking"..they'll register it for you and setup the DNS as needed. They do however tend to charge a whack more...

I've used zoneedit.com in the past for free DNS servers. It's not really that complicated

Uh - so they'll only fix the technical problem "in return for" getting the domain names? Does that mean their attitude is that they won't fix the technical problem unless they get the domain names? I hope this is just poor re-wording from a journalist and not a paraphrase of a company statement.

Hi All,

I was emailed yesterday by Tracy Murie regarding complaints I made in writing and telephonically to them about the website and their contracts being misleading. She asked for an explanation so these are copies of our messages:

Hello Tracy,

I found this out after many calls to support, but they have been unable to tell me where in the contract it mentions the contention ration. I could not find it in the contract or on the website; perhaps you can advise.

Hi there

I found this on our website:

What speed/throughput does the MyWireless service offer?
The initial commercial product launch will include three packages. Your achievable throughput will be defined by the package you purchase. Initially a 128Kbps, 256Kbps and 512Kbps package will be available on a shared bandwidth platform.

Regards,
Tracy.

Hello Tracy,

I also found the words "shared bandwidth platform" - but it is vague. It should mention the contention ratio as well don't you think. Saying "shared bandwidth platform" is the same as "the cost is something like R500 p/m, and then charging the client R600p/m". The client will obviously freak if you charge R600 and saying that the website says that the price is "R500 something" is very vague.
One would presume from what is on the website that on a 128k service the "shared bandwidth" would be maybe 64k available at peak times.
One would also expect the contract to stipulate in black and white what the contention ratio is, but it does not?

In short, the website is firstly misleading and somewhere the client has to be made aware what the contention ratio is -- currently this is not being done, unless you spend hours on the phone with support and they finally say "oh but dont you know the contention ratio is 30-1".

I'm pretty sure that in the future there will be major issues because the website or contract is not clear what the contention ratio is ?

Her reply to my last response was
"I will take this up with General Manager : Marketing"

Now what is this cr*p of theirs to only provide good service if they have that domain, that is nonsense. Even if the domain is not handed over they got no right to purposefully not resolve the problems. They are nasty people.

Well Done Rodent!!! at last a small voice is heard by the big Giant!!!

TheRodent is famous!!! woohoo! well done Mouseboy! :) you are indeed becoming a pest to Sentech! awesome!
