Question directed to those that own businesses or deal directly with business customers.

Do you thank clients for payment when you supply them stock on credit, or does the credit facility serve as "gratitude" for payment?

And if you are a retail business customer purchasing stock on credit terms, do you expect, or would you welcome a thank you letter from your supplier, when you pay them?

In my limited experience, I would rather you invest that time in maintaining a good client relationship through good service and respect (from both sides). That's far more appealing than a Thank You letter.

Paying on time should be par for the course, not something so special it deserves a thank you.

I work for a retail company and if are even one day late to pay our various landlords (for whatever reason, even if we have payed but the payment hasn't appeared in the landlords account) we get hit with interest.

So I wouldn't do it. Makes you appear too lenient and you might find people take advantage of you.

Perhaps rather look at discounts for early payment, something we get from some of our suppliers. Much better way to incentivise payment.

I'm not referring to paying on time or using a thank you to encourage people to pay.

I'm specifically referring to the gratitude aspect, since you can only say thank you after they pay, so you can't use thanks to advance payment.

But like you said payment is part and parcel of services rendered, I shouldn't be thanking you if I carried a risk of supplying goods on credit for a month or even longer.
