I am busy making a new website, but found that it is slightly too much work for me to handle alone so I need a partner. I don't want to reveal too much of the idea so I am just going to give you a very simplified description of it; It has to do with aiding people in purchasing a PC.

Btw if you the type of guy who's main concern is helping the community, then don't worry because this will be free and extremely useful. But if you are an entrepreneur like most of us, I have plans to make this very profitable.

So if you are interested just pm me, and I will go into more detail. I can even show you a couple of concept drawings. I am preferably looking for someone who knows about webdesign, database handling or hardware but these aren't requirements.

If you got any questions feel free to ask.

So basically, a website that will advise people on differnet setups? I'm not so sure if it'll fly though.. Most people buying on the web know what they want, as any question is just a google tab away. The others don't want to buy on the web becuase it is scary.. Good luck though.

This would be useful, and the same technology could be used to put custom lawnmowers or furniture or remote-control things or even houses together for sale.

Usually, the problem with this kind of a site is that, having determined all the recommended parts from the site, the prospective buyer buggers off and gets the parts elsewhere, sometimes getting inferior parts and then bad-mouthing your setup and sometimes managing to source the parts much cheaper through side contacts and then starts competing with you.

You'd be better off simply defining your own set of end-use-pc's and selling them complete, ready for the use they were built for.

The site will help people arrive at their own setup and if done right they wouldn't need to google anything. You do make a fair point about people knowing what they want, but I don't think this is the majority.

It isn't a online store so this shouldn't be a problem.

But this has been done before.

Thanks though for the constructive criticism guys, will help me make a better so keep it coming.

It's a great idea, but it will be very difficult to build a website that can give you suggestions according to certain criteria (eg. budget [R7000] gaming PC).

The other issue that you'll have is that something like this will require constant updates due to the ever changing prices and new components.

If you're going to charge for the service, then I doubt that anyone would make use of it.

The only way that I think something like this is going to work is if you are going to promote your own PC shop's components, because it'll really be a hassle to promote/suggest components from multiple shops!

Good luck with your project though!

+1

I'm really with you on that one. There are really VERY few shops that have pre-built PC's that have decent components at a decent price!
The best pre-built PC's that I've seen in SA up till now was at http://www.evetech.co.za/ and they still have quite a few shockingly poor setups too!

I think for a start, pre-built PC's would be the best choice.

xD maybe I shouldn't have given a brief description of it, because people are getting the wrong ideas from it. My idea is very possible to execute and doesn't give suggestions according to criterias. This thread is mainly for trying to find people who are interested in getting involved in a project and then I will tell those interested my idea in full.

I have a program that fetches computer parts details automatically so this won't be an issue.

Not planning on ever charging people for the service, I have other methods to make money.

A couple of people have already expressed their interest, so I am setting a deadline of Friday, for anyone else who is interested, to pm me.
