Consumer Protection Act would you departure point. Thats where I start. I vaguely recall it is illegal to not provide a quote. Not a lawyer.Morning all,
If anyone in the know could point me in the right direction or offer a bit of advice, that would be very much appreciated as I've very recently returned to SA after having been out of the country for many years and I'm not up to speed with business legal stuff here.
I contacted my property management company about some renovations that needed to be done to my property to find out if it was me or them responsible for carrying out the repairs. Long story short, they communicated with me that they would carry out the repair but never acknowledged who was responsible for the repair. They also never provided a quote before carrying out the work, or let me know what sort of cost was going to be involved for the repair, I was just presented with a bill after work was completed. Had they communicated properly with me and provided a quote, I would have had the decision whether or not to do the work myself and save a big chunk of cash.
Is a quote a legal requirement? Am I responsible for this cost given that I wasn't given a quote before the work and the chance to agree or disagree to the potential work being carried out?
Thanks in advance.
Internal maintenance would be for your account. Agreed that a quote should have been sent to you to sign off on.Yep, sectional title. General interior maintenance repairs were done.
I'm pretty sure the reason OP is hesitant to pay is because he's being ripped off.Internal maintenance would be for your account. Agreed that a quote should have been sent to you to sign off on.
Is the quote reasonable or not?
If reasonable pay for the work and labor and move on....if not reasonable try and agree on a price settlement that you feel is reasonable given that they did not send you a quote or seek your approval.
Fair enough, tell them your not prepared to pay the full invoice due to them not quoting you first. Then agree on a price.Got it in one, yes, extortionate labour and parts I could have sourced way cheaper.
