Very excited about the impending launch of the Nokia Lumia 920, so I decided to mozy over to Windows Phone market and just check that all/most of my favorite Android apps are there. And it turned out to be a bummer.

I was looking for the DSTV Drifta, Standard Bank, News24, Ster Kinekor, Computicket, Supersport, DSTV, Discovery, etc. apps & could not find anything.

Also could not find Swiftkey 3, The Verge, Tapatalk, Flipboard, XE Currency, Engadget, Endomondo PRO, etc.

Where are all the apps? Did I go to the wrong place?

Seriously, I just cannot see myself buying a Windows Phone, even if it's the Nokia Lumia 920, if it hasn't got any good apps.

There is a Engadget app, there isn't Tapatalk but BoardXpress is what I use. There is also a Endomondo app(link). XE Currency is also around :http://www.xe.com/apps/windowsphone/.
SA app wise. News24 is available but all the others are not unfortunately :(

Wonder if Nokia is going to use their OVI store to support app downloads on the WP?

I really hope they do, as Microsoft makes you pay for most apps, and maybe Nokia is more forthcoming. :)

Was very disappointed when I went to visit the Windows App Store, their apps are not as polished as the ones for Android.

But hopefully things will improve with Windows Phone 8.

And with the OVI store, if I remember right, you can pay with your air time.

Yes, that was a neat feature of OVI store, not sure if it's still like that.

Also depends on the service providers, I know Vodacom used to allow purchases via OVI store.

Just my view wondering if all about the phone or the applications store (Apps), it should be the phone and then the apps if they have any practical value - I only like the use of any app if the phone/OS does not have the particular app included as native to the OS/phone and then it must have practical use, not the "NICE TO HAVE" or "BRAND FASHION" bullsh*t so often punted about these days.:)

For me it's all about being useful to me, don't like to have apps on my phone that I hardly use.

But the apps I've got on my Galaxy S2, are really really good.

I need at least my Standard Bank banking app, DSTV Drifta, Discovery (for Vitality points) & Supersport to be there, as a bare minimum.

Also, the revamped YouTube app on Android is simply outstanding - and I do use that a lot! Not impressed with the crappy YouTube app on Windows Phone, as it's basically a shortcut that takes you to the web browser view.

Rofl, that's quite bad

This what it looks like on my Galaxy S2....so it must look the same or better.

It's pretty much a wasteland. One consolation is that the native keyboard is quite superb and equal to the likes of Swiftkey any day in my view. Local apps will be worse than international ones though because there's such low penetration here and they're probably very resource constrained. But I do struggle finding good apps on the Lumia 610.

Also had a look at their app store the other day.
I cannot imagine moving to WP with the current lack of proper apps in the app store.

I've been using TubePro, previously known as SuperTube(still launches as SuperTueb when I open it though)
Drifta App? Nice finally... will test this out tonight.

hehe....if you look at this "YouTube" app in the Windows Phone store, it's basically a browser shortcut that takes you to the mobile YouTube site. LOL

Why Microsoft cannot come up with a better app, is beyond me. Bow your heads in shame! :(

I'm keen to see what app annouments if any MS going to make when unveiling WP8 at the end of the month
