Johannesburg - The grandson of IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi was abducted last week and the drug lords holding him had demanded a ransom, the leader said in his online letter on Thursday.

But a call to the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner quickly led to the arrest of the suspects.

Buthelezi said: "The seriousness of organised crime was personally brought home to me again last week when my grandson was abducted by drug lords in Durban," Buthelezi said.

"My grandson, a recovering addict, was being assisted by a pastor and close family friend, who is experienced in this field.

"He rang me to tell me that the drug lords were demanding R1 000 for my grandson's release".

The province's police commissioner Hamilton Ngidi was contacted and the kidnappers were caught and arrested.

Buthelezi did not say whether his grandson was injured or how many suspects had been arrested.

Hahahahha some criminals really are retarded. R1000? Come on! If you are going to go through all the trouble of kidnapping someone and demanding ransom at least demand a decent sum.

So they are only interested in getting their petty 1k ? Surely being druglords they aren't going to have some sort of law of conduct whereby rule 483 states they can only demand what is owing to them?

Hey it's better than them killing him for his cellphone! :p

Quite a shocking story that, actually. I hope the kid gets it together.
