Buy Laptops on Amazon

Oh great! Which forwarding service do you use?

Just checked and value was converted to rand before calculations were done. This was shipped directly from the seller with dhl, no forwarder.

If you're buying from amazon they will bill you upfront for duties & vat so you wont have dealings with customs.

Thanks for checking, I appreciate it.

Atm Amazon isn't shipping it to SA (This item does not ship to South Africa. Please check other sellers who may ship internationally. Due to increased demand, we temporarily have reduced product selection available for delivery to your region. We are working to improve selection availability as soon as possible.) so maybe using a forwarding company is the best option right now?

Couriers might not deliver either, I've read here of couriers returning parcels to sellers as they can't deliver. It's a crapshoot.

Which laptop you after?

I wouldn't bother trying to order anything before the shutdown has ended and buying expensive goods from Amazon that isn't shipped direct by Amazon is asking for trouble.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I will wait until lock-down has ended and consider my options thereafter.

I ordered HP laptop from amazon, the price of the laptop + shipping fee + custom charges, still it is cheaper than buying local shops

Just bought an MSI Gaming Laptop through Amazon - what a pleasurable experience!!

Evetech quoted me > R50k for the machine - but then had all kinds of stories about chips being unavailable, shortage of graphical cards, bla, bla.

Found a GS66 Stealth, i7 10875, RTX2070 Super, 32 GB RAM, 300 Hz display on Amazon and finally decided to take the chance. Worked out at R33k incl. VAT, import duties, delivery. Ordered it on a Wednesday afternoon - was delivered by courier to my home address 6 days later - SIX DAYS - all the way from the States, via Dubai, clearance through customs and to my home address in Pretoria. What an amazing machine - this is the best laptop I ever owned. Arrived perfect condition, really well packaged!

Ordered a screen same tame from Evetech - they are in Centurion - 30 km's away - "due to Covid" could not collect - it took them 10 (TEN) DAYS to ship a screen 30 km distance. It took Amazon only 6 days to ship a laptop from the States, air transport to Dubai, then South Africa, clear it through customs and deliver it to my home location!! PLUS I saved R17k on the deal!!

No fear guys - amazing service through Amazon. Laptop carries an international warrantee. All I had to do was to get a US / SA power adapter plug, but ordered that through Takealot; it took two days to be delivered.

And what warranty does it have outside of the 30 day amazon period?

He said it carries an international warranty so they'll probably have a 3rd party that they subcontract to in Sa for repairs or maybe they even have their own support structures in Sa because it is a brand that is sold here via normal retail channels.

1 yr limited international warrantee - like all other MSI laptops bought anywhere in the world. Locally certain retailers like to extend that to a two year warrantee - but you pay for that - it is an option MSI offers to allow you to extend the warrantee.
