If I had to buy a secondhand LCD monitor of 22+ inches what should I look out for and is there anything I should do before I take the screen, for example:
  • run some kind of program that checks if there's dead pixels
  • mess around with screen menu
etc.

Thanks

ask if there's any warrantee left..... if not, then only take it if it's a bargain

I once bought an out of warrantee 20" LCD from a great price, it still runs fine after a year.... on the other hand I also bought a 23" that developed vertical lines across the right edge... fortunately samsung has 3year manufacturer's warrantee because the seller couldn't provide me with papers at the time of sale.

buying 2nd hand goods is always a gamble...

You don't actually need anything too fancy to test for dead pixels.
(though there are a couple programs out there that do the same job)
Just run a colour test similar to these ones

Warranty options are always a plus. But nothing beats buying it new.

some are riskier then others though and I'm thinking 2nd hand screens are pretty risky

I was about to buy a screen new at Incredible Connection... seemed like such a great deal

just to be told the prices on the website and at their stores are entirely different (which makes f#@kall sense to me) but if I order it online I have to pay a nice shipping fee and I dont really want to buy online from Incredible connection... im not sure why but i just dont

so out of misery I just started looking at buying a second hand screen

I'd rather buy a 2nd hand lcd than a 2nd hand hdd

+1 on that. If your dude has dropped his lcd (unlikely) you'll see it immediately. If the dude's dropped his hard drive...not so easy to tell.

well guys i just decided to get a new one... pay extra for the peace of mind

thanks
