Hi everyone,

I've been sleeping on the same bed since the beginning of 2010, and my mom had it before that. I inherited it from her after she died.

This morning I woke up with lower back pain. I have replaced my pillows recently - they are memory foam contour pillows.

Could it be the mattress? If so, can someone tell me about buying a bed? I mean, what do I look for? How much should I expect to spend? Where is a good place to buy from?

You'll need around 10k for a decent mattress. Go to Matress King and test a few (i.e. lie down for a few mins).

Cloud Nine and I’ll never look back.

Can pick up a decent Queen size from about 10k.

Beds themselves if you want anything more than just a base can be pricey.

I think I need a mattress and a base. The bed I have now is a mattress and base set, so I think maybe it is best to replace both at the same time?

I also need to decide if I want to go from queen to queen extra length. Wonder if it is worth it. I'm 1.86m tall, but if I upgrade to queen extra length, it also means new sheets and duvet etc.

Go for it. You can't put a price on a good nights rest.

Just the sheets the rest stays the same.

Then one day when you can you get a king size duvet.

The sheets and mattress protector would have to change, but yes I realized you are right about the duvet cover.

**** if Sauron is advocating spending money on something then you know it's a good choice :p

Worth it for the little bit extra it costs imo.
Nice not having feet dangling off the end of the bed.

Lol.

I only advocate spending money on quality ****.

Reason I’m super Jew otherwise is that I’ll rather go without than have something mediocre.

I did the whole pocket coil thing and it was a major mistake and massive fight to return it.

Those are the type of mattresses I'm looking at now - a pocket coil hybrid.

Why would you say pocket coil was a mistake? And what brand was it?

Where did you buy it from that they did not want to accept a return?

No help to the OP, but just a rant: What I don't understand is why the main manufacturers (Simmonds, Sealy etc) don't make bases with storage drawers in them in South Africa. They seem to be pretty much standard in many places overseas. If you want one here you either have to get something 'tacked on' to a slatted base frame, and I don't want that, or else get something custom made. It's great to be able to store out of season bed linen out of the way.
