So what do you guys look for when buying a camera?

Many people told me that Megapixels don't mean jack and it's only marketing terms to help entice the customer...

I am looking for a camera under R2000 but cant make my mind up, i have seen a Samsung with a lens in front that looks pretty cool, then someone told me that the canon ixus is better. But there are a lot of products that have the same specs and some people still say that one is better than the other.

So could anyone please advise(detailed information) what would be the best camera and why it is the best.

Thank you

I dont know much about cameras, but this i will say, Canon and Nikon make cameras (Panasonic make video cameras).
I have an older Nikon - and the quality is just brilliant.

Panasonic Lumix cameras are brilliant.

Seems like the usual response here, if it's not Nikon or Canon it must be kuk.

Tbh, i tried the lumix but felt the Nikon was far better - but the lumix videos were brilliant.
So my saying Panasonic make nice video camera's.

I have had lots of joy with cheap Chinese made Kodak Z-series bridge cameras. So I would not dismiss Kodak as perde poefies.
