Beware
I had a horrible experience doing this.
Recently ported to MTN and added a repeating 500MB bundle to MyCall100 (also got the story about adding a repeating bundle and cancelling when necessary). Only wanted it for one month.
During the month I had it, no-one at 808 or 1555 could tell me the balance remaining on my bundle. Only got told that I had 5MB remaining (which I knew was BS and turned out to be the out-of-bundle use before the bundle activated).
MTNActive showed no usage, and two 500MB bundles (due to MTN's billing system they charge for the current month and one month in advance). Some 808 operators even told me I had 1GB for the month.
I didn't keep record of my usage, and after a while wasn't at all sure how much I had already used. But since no-one could tell me how much I had left, I stopped using it to avoid a sky-high bill at out-of-bundle rates.
I then cancelled the bundle before the next invoice date.
A couple of weeks later I got an SMS saying my credit limit was 90% exceeded. Phoned 808 and they told me I had used 300MB so far that month, billed at out-of-bundle rates. Spent 10 minutes on the line explaining that the usage was for the previous month when I had a bundle. Took them 10 minutes to figure out that it was the case. Got told that I need to phone again once the invoice period closes so that I can ask them to correct the error (which can't be done automatically).
A day later I tried to make a call and got message my service is suspended. P!ssed off, I phoned 808, only to have to explain the same story from the start. After 5 minutes of ranting, got my credit limit raised so that I could get service reactivated.
Bottom line: if you only want a bundle for a month, don't do it. The admin is a nightmare.
MTN's billing system is useless. If I had known this, I would have stayed at Vodacom and paid the R1000 pay-in for my 6110 Navigator.
@ "MTN guys" (snakepit/pitbull?): is there any way of avoiding this? The whole episode really had me boiling (and I'm an extremely patient person).
