Same direction yes, but Sutherland is higher in height, hence the snow. Tankwa Karoo gets very little snow, if any each year. It's the most amazing place I have been visiting for last 10 years. That's where Afrikaburn is held annually

@SandtonScandi , you might want to consider the sunshine coast, Port Alfredish. Land is cheap, security is decent, close to the sea, 20 min drive from inland towns and villages. Decent services, infrastructure. Dry, hot, low rainfull . Moved here 10 plus years ago and loving it. Check out www.ebathurst.com. Small farming, hippie, artist pineapple village 20km from PA.

Near Botswana border is best. Or up the west coast as the east coast of the western cape too expensive.

I was last there in winter of 2019 - wish I could go back. The beaches nearby are the best in SA.

I want to live secluded with good air quality (because of health issues and wanting a more quiet lifestyle). Want to have dogs, maybe some horses, sheep etc. Within 30-40 min drive from a bigger town or city for all the amenities, grocery stores etc. I'm not going to become a full-time farmer though.

I prefer dry air and little rainfall because I feel better in that type of climate.

Somewhere between not being a full-time farmer, and owning horses and sheep... lies the size of the farm you're wanting to own. How many sheep and horses? Of course you need water for them, and to grow their food, and possibly your own. I think if you said more about the size of your dream set-up, you might get some more advice, not on how to run it, (maybe that, too) but about what you initially asked: where to find it.

What general area did you end up moving to and how big is the piece of land?
Also what water rights of any did you get?

Lower Albany between Makhanda( Gtown ) and Port Alfred. Its a small plot of land, 3Ha, lots of plots for sale in the region.The one area, called Langholm has some good land deals, 150-200k for a piece of good bushveld land in a game reserve. A picture of some community members:

I was just reading this post about Port Alfreds water issues. And its much worse than that, the whole area is having problems with water. Some people have not had water in 6 months. A large amount of people only get water a couple hours a day.

Our water was entirely rain, but finally managed to get a borehole running and use that. We dont have water rights, I guess.

Very nice area, very good price for the land. Did you buy a plot and build or was there pre-existing buildings?
