Thanks. Lets say I am hoping for R30k for my car, but will take R20k. Will a trade in come in at R15k?
No, you've reached the magic 20k mark! You will probably get 20

For trade in? I'm the worlds worst bargainer and negotiator and cant say no, so a private sale I would probably shaft myself. Through a dealer at least I dont have admin and comebacks.
Fazda, are you in the motor industry?
Yes - that's why I am over the moon with Rouxenator's intelligently thought out comment above yours...![]()
You can, I bought a car in an afternoon, so did Fazda with his Polo.2) Why can't we buy cars in SA like they do in the USA. I.e I walk into the dealer at 2pm, finance, insurance, trade in, all arranged and I drive out in the car I want today at 5pm.
Got a couple of other questions then...which might not apply to you/your brand but...
1) Why is it when buying a new car, all the sales guy is interested in is your settlement? Its like if the settlement is low, you get less discount and if the settlement is high, they give discount to make the deal. Surely the value of the trade in should be determined separately from the discount etc especially for a more astute buyer who just gets frustrated by the play around? Any thoughts here?

OK - he has to ask you if there is a settlement so that he can see if he is wasting his time or not. Many people will come in with a car with a very high settlement, just to see what their car is worth. If you owe, say 250k on your car, and you don't want to add anything to the deal, and book on your car is 180k then there is no way you can do a deal. Another reason, is that you are allowed to "over allow" on a deal, in other words, to use the discount on a car to make up the difference between book and settlement.
Over allowance can come from two parts - either part of the discount, or part of the margin on the car. In some cases, I have sold a car at full price, but used the full discount to settle the car.
Hope that makes sense.
The NCA makes it very difficult to do a one day deal, unless it's a cash deal, and all ducks are in a row.Finance alone is quite a mission, and you are unlikely to get an answer in under two or three hours - the paperwork involved in sorting out a deal takes a minimum of 3 hours to get together, so unless you start at 7 am, the chances of getting your car that day are slim, if it's a finance deal. I did a financed STi in one day last year, but the guy was at the dealership at 7 am, and had all of his paperwork with him - he took delivery at 5:30 that afternoon. We sold a new 86 last week for cash - the guy phoned to tell us to get the car ready at 9:45, and he came in with bank guaranteed check and took delivery at 1:15, so it is possible, just quite a run-around. Licencing is a mission - not too bad in small towns, but in a city you prepare the papers the day before and should have everything back by about noon the following day. That's the licencing department that slows that bit down and they play GOD, literally, if every single document is not there, you go to the bottom of the pile in one quick movement.
You mentioned a Trade in - whether you like it or not, the price has to be agreed upon on the Trade in - settlement figure has to be extracted from the bank if there is one, then an HPI check has to be done on the car - all of this takes time, but no more in at 2 out at 5 stories I'm afraid.
because this is a 3rd world country which is run by cANCer
I have always wanted to try that, buy and receive the car in 1 day![]()
So, the ANC controls the speed at which a dealership can close a deal?
:wtf:
My all time record was leaving home at 2pm and getting back at 4:30, complete with new car...
2 pm drove to the shops to buy Hot cross buns. 2:15, saw the VW I wanted - 4:30 home with new VW and Hot cross buns! .
