Hi all

We have a SD decoder at work which they want to replace with an HD decoder.

What all needs to be done to ensure that the smart card currently sitting in the SD decoder will work in the HD decoder?

Regards

The new decoder will come with its own smart card. You will not be able to use the SD smart card because decoder and smart card must be "married".

IIRC Smartcards and Decoders are locked - you will have to use the new smart card that comes with the decoder.

So basically go into Multichoice and get them to do everything?

Is there any paperwork we need to take with to complete this, like ID copy etc? Nobody knows whose name this thing is in, it's been sitting in the boardroom for years and has always worked but now the company want HD.

You could call them and give them the current smart card number and they'll tell how it's registered. I'm not sure how company subs work, but residential you just buy and call in. They remove the one you're replacing from profile and reg the new and you're good to go.

I am sure you can just buy a new decoder and use the call center to link it. There must be some way for them to identify the holder of the account.

Others will have to confirm but i remember setting this up for my Dad years back, he wanted just HD and they wanted to give him pvr catchup at an extra cost so maybe confirm with them you just want HD and no pvr and extras etc.

So I had a chat with Multichoice yesterday. They said they need the account holder to approve switching the account from the SD decoder to the HD decoder.

Only problem is, the account holder left the company and emigrated 3 years ago (account is in his name but the company pays for the subscription every month.) If I was to phone in and pretend to be the account holder, what questions would they ask to verify? I'm sure they'll ask ID no, cell no, address which I can all get, but anything else and I'll be stumped.

Flip maybe I should just tell them to forget about going HD.
