Can members please give me advice on the following.
My daughter in the UK is coming out for my 80th bithday and wants to buy me a laptop.Kindly recommend an unit
which has stood the test of time.On the face of it i would suggest a DELL or HP.
Customs wise i think one is allowed to have one lap top when travelling, however, any advice will be appreciated.

Dell and HP are fine.

Personally, I wouldn't get a system from the UK, unless you can get one with US and not UK keyboard. It's irritating having $ and # in the wrong place, and a useless £ sign.

Happy birthday!

Tell her to use her BPP and buy one here locally for you. That way you are 100% sure it will be supported locally when the warranty needs to be utilised. Buying on in UK and bringing it in a bit pointless really.

Then buy a Dell with a 3 year onsite warranty. Best deal and support out there.

Many thanks for the feedback which is appreciated. As a matter of interest i have decided on the Dell XPS 13 -9350.
The SA price is about R35000.Uk price Pounds 849 and in the US $ 1269.At current exchange rates buying it overseas, my daughter will save about R15000.I am sure Dell will organise a world wide guarantee.

Nice machine with tiny bezel. :)

The only reason I wouldn't go for an XPS 13 is the webcam. The tiny screen bezel means the webcam is at the bottom of the screen, so it's a nosecam.
