Hi there peoples :)

I'm looking to purchase a second hand PS3 in coming month or two.
There are still soooo many good games I want to play:D

Just a few questions. Is there anything specific I should be on the lookout for?
A certain model, firmware I should avoid?
Or anything else someone can recommend?
How important is warranty on these consoles?

Looking for a 320/500gig PS3 with two controlers and a few games for lets say R2500?
Is this realistic?

I am patient so don't really mind waiting for a good deal :)

Thanks in advance

Hmm whoops just saw there is a gaming console sub forum. If someone can move this thread there it would be great :)

Pity you're in Pretoria, I'm in Cape Town and my PS3 is just gathering dust. Got some nice games for it too, like GTA V ...

Next time you're in Cape Town, look me up lol.

R2500 with 2 controls n a game or 2 is the going rate imo.

Just keep looking on carbonite, gumtree and olx.

If you're patient you'll find what u need.

I bought a 320gb for R2000, 2 controls and a game.

Also don't think there's any big issues that you should be on the lookout for. Never really heard of anyone getting any big issues or ylod.
Just make sure it links up to wifi correctly and that you test a game or two out before buying.

Check this out...you could probably bargain him down if you don't take all the extras

My only recommendation is that you def request seller to switch it on and show you that its working, discs insert/ eject properly, etc. If you just meet them at shopping centre to do the trade that wont work. Check the warranty seal.

You can even go as far as research on the internet for all the various models and release dates to have an idea of how old is the one you'll be looking at.

And check that the remotes are working fine, joysticks/ press function and all buttons working and not sticky.

Usually you can tell how well a person looks after their hardware by the condition of the games disks. If they look like an ice rink then pass.

Unlikely to have any warranty on anything you buy second hand, but even out of warranty it's a no problem as you can do a swopout at partserve for very little money to get a known working replacement.

They are generally quiet bulletproof but like Polish said just actually make sure it works when buying.

I sold mine about 2 months ago. I had a hard time finding a buyer. Sold it for R2500. 320gb with 2 controllers, move controller and the nun chuck thing with the camera and six games

I bought a 250Gb PS3 with three controllers, a remote control and 4 games about a month ago for R2600 on Carbonite. Went to the guys house to collect and he powered it on and showed me that everything worked. Personally I would stick to Carbonite instead of scamtree.

Whatever you do, don't buy PS3 Guitar hero guitars second hand. For some strange reason you need a specific USB wireless connector for the PS3 and it gives endless sync issues. On the XBOX it is turn on and play.

Head over to sagamer, there are a few people selling their ps3 as a bundle.

Check out SA Gamer as well. They have a rep system for sellers and buyers on iTrader and most of the forumites are really trustworthy and really look after their equipment and games.

PostNet has a R99 shipping option as well if you don't get what you looking for in your area. I shipped a PS3 to Gauteng a few month ago with no issues.
