I have a mate going to the states on Saturday and want her to pick up two Galaxy tablets for me. My concern is that I recall reading something about the US running on a different communication standard to SA so I'm concerned that certain functions might not work. Can anyone confirm what the pros and cons are of buying it from the states? Obviously it's a few grand cheaper over there so I'd prefer to get it that side...

Verizon uses CDMA which will not work here.

So get a tablet that will work on AT&T, and it must not be locked.

The iPad 2 AT&T models are not locked and will work here, I do not know about the Samsung Galaxy tablet.

American frequencies are different, but the USA iPad 2 supports local frequencies.

Again, I do not know what the case is with the Samsung Galaxy, but the frequencies should be OK.
