Where can I find out more about the 3 year warrentees that LG and Samsung has to offer?

a salesman at audio vision said the samsungs will carry this 3 year warranty on all sets sold until december. Don't know about LG (call game) but the Sony ones supposedly also carry that extra warranty with manufacturer - you need to register on their site for it though.

Samsung series 5 LA40B530 with Samsung DVD P191 @ Game for R9999 vs Sony KLV-40S400A @ makro for R9999

who's the winner? Still Sony me-thinks. Guess you could always sell the DVD player for about R500 and effectively pay R9500 for the Samsung Series 5 40" LCD

Heya guys,

Need to revive this thread with a couple of questions, seeing as we clearly have a couple of gurus resident here. Looking for a good 40" LCD, budget about R17k

First off, in the Samsung, what's the difference between the LA40B610 & the LA40B650?

Then, the Sonys, is there a big difference between the W450 & the W550 series? & how will a KLV-40X450 X series measure up against a KLV-40W550 ?

Bring it on, how guru are you guys really ;)

Why do you want LCD? Will it be used primarily for XBOX/PS3? Will you watch TV in a very brightly lit area most of the time? ... if not then plasma is better.

Well,

The primary use will be streaming media through a PS3 & playing a game now & again. The odd DVD & blu-ray too. TV is so last year ;)

Screen burn is not an issue anymore on the latest plasmas, but it would still not be ideal to have a static graphic on it 90% of the time, so if you always play one specific game with a score or health bar etc. sitting in the same spot then LCD is maybe the better option.

For TV/movies no LCD will give you the natural picture that a good plasma will ... with a 17K budget you can get a Panasonic FullHD 42" plasma. At that size FullHD is REALLY not important, but it does have one major advantage:
Anybody who sees your new toy will immediately ask "Wow, now tell me, is it one of those new FullHD/1080p models" and you can then honestly answer "Yes", instead of having to explain that it makes no diff unless you view a 50" from less than 2.5 meters away.
