Buying foreign stocks

Any of you know if it's possible to buy stocks from foreign stock exchanges, like NYSE or the LSE? If it is, how would one go about doing this?

This is an old thread but I'm bumping it up because I have the same question. I want to buy shares in a particular company on the NYSE, is it possible from SA?

Correct me if i`m wrong, but i register with global trader( www.gt24.co.za). buy and sell stock mostly at night. still have a demo account but will go live soon
