Seems legit. Just make sure the model you get supports our GSM/LTE bands.

Thanks for the link..

1. I dont lock myself into 24 month contracts, and buy my devices cash
2. Currently 5,5 64GB can get in the US for less than R10k - think thats a pretty good deal
3. I am a bit impatient with regards to waiting and my mate in the US can bring it out early October..

Not bad, then. Good luck with the purchase.

Does anyone know about the warranty when you get the phone from the US, when I previously got my 5 they didn't offer anything here because they don't have any official Apple Stores.

Any ideas on if that's changed?

In my experience and confirmed by Core Group, they will honour warranties but not AppleCare provided you can prove that you paid the relevant import duties (currently only the 14% VAT on 110% of the import value of the item). Taking into account that you will have to pay Sales Tax in the US (6-8% avg), and VAT on this side, generally speaking I'd wait and buy it locally. They won't even perform paid service unless you can prove duties paid.

Unless you absolutely cannot wait a few months and don't care about warranty (or actually any) service.

Warranty for international iPhones is not honoured in South Africa. Only Mac's, iPads and iPods have international warranty. Just wait until it gets to SA.

Bad idea bro. After paying taxes and import duty and taking the weak exchange rate info account, it won't be such a bargain anymore. You're also not guaranteed that it will work here. If I were you, I would rather wait for its release in SA and be sure of a guarantee and after sales support for such an expensive device.

I burned my fingers once when I bought a copier from the USA and the damn thing wasn't compatable with our electricity current.

Wow, there's more to it than I thought.

Really appreciate the input - and due to the factors mentioned not going to risk it.

Makes for a good article on mybb for those not in the know like me.

Thanks again.
