Hi All,

I've been wanting to pick up a mech keyboard for the last 3 or so years. I've finally decided that I'm going to go out and pick one up.

My question to all of you is where about in the Durban/Richards bay area can I try out the different switch types? I want to order blues but I'd prefer to try out all the switches so I know for sure what I want.

I'm looking at this for roughly R1700.

Suggestions on keyboards are welcome. Needs to be back-lit, full size with numpad, Have media keys and macros would be a plus (at least 5)

What's the main use of the keyboard?

If it's gaming rather get REDs.

I can recommend reds for FPS, but blues or browns are more multi-purpose. The Coolermaster Quickfire series is worth a look, my Quickfire TK with Reds is perfect for my needs and no problems whatsoever over 2 years or so. Very solidly built.

Check the Gigabyte Osmium as well.

Bit cheaper and from reviews seems very good :)

These seem to have problems after a couple of months :(

Its a mix TBH. I do a little hardware coding but mostly gaming. Thought of blues because of the distinctive click. I did a little more reading on the Blues and they require one to pull back a little to double tap. Might look at some browns not sure on the reds because of the linearness of them...

I was looking at those. Forgot to mention I would like a wrist rest as well (the Quickfires don't seem to have a rest). Find they make the keyboard a little more comfortable

Forgot about this keyboard. It pretty much has everything I want in a keyboard.

Now its just back to which switch I want... I will have to get myself up to Durban sometime and go try the switches out..

I have the following keyboards:

TT eSports Meka G1 (Cherry MX Brown)
CM Storm QuickFire TK (Cherry MX Red)
Gigabyte Osmium (Cherry MX Red)

and I am currently reviewing the Aorus Thunder K7 (Cherry MX Red) (as well as the Thunder M7 and P3 XL).

All of these are great keyboards. I will be posting a review of the Aorus Thunder 7 up to G3AR in the next few days but it has everything you want and in fact the numpad is the macro pad so when you want to game you move it over to the left hand-side of the keyboard then you are good to game.

I prefer Cherry MX Red for both gaming and typing.

The Aorus looks pretty interesting!

Well the reason for the upgrade is for gaming. Although I do a fair bit of typing on my main rig as well.

Edit: Meh at roughly R2k its a bit out of my price bracket...

Yes, it is expensive.

I love the osmium, so I can recommend that but then I also love the QuickFire TK.
The Osmium is a good all rounder, even has a few macro keys.
