Buying Netbook for my gf

Hey guys

Pls help.
Need to buy a Netbook for my gf and Dionwired have this one. Its pink
HP
INTEL ATOM PROCESSOR N475
2GB MEMORY
250GB HDD
WINDOWS 7 STARTER
10.1 SCREEN
1 YEAR WARRANTY
R2299

Is that a good price for a netbook?
Any issues with HP Netbooks anyone know of?
What about the processor, is it a good one?

They were offering a dell and a LG in December for R 1999. Are those better?
Anyone can direct me to any better deals?

If it's for your girlfriend and she's not looking for anything specific then I'd suggest you buy the one which looks better (which would obviously be the pink one ;)).

HP tends to look more glossy whereas dell has a more standard look.

Both of these companies make laptops with quality, so i doubt you'll have many problems with them.
 
Yes, it's a good price - and a decent configuration. Plenty of entry-level netbooks still come with 1GB of RAM - not ideal for Win7 - so 2GB is a plus. Any netbook that combines big brand name, Windows 7, 2GB of RAM and a hard drive for well under R3000 sounds like a bargain - even if it's pink (actually pink and blue, i think).

Don't expect it to run heavy compute loads, or gamer graphics - but for email, internet, Facebook, Skype, and carrying along to the coffee shop, these netbooks are great. My wife loves her similarly-spec'ed Packard-bell - her second netbook, after cutting her netbook teeth on an Acer Aspire One. Definitely worth it!
 
Very good specs for the price. I recently bought the Samsung N150 Plus with approx same specs for just under R3,000. I am surprised how much better a 10" is than a 9". Screen is comfortable for much longer and the chicklet type keyboard is very comfortable and well spaced.
 
Horses for courses, PostmanPot. Yes, the full-size laptop is a better swiss army knife - but the netbook (in sleeve) goes into a large handbag, while the laptop becomes an extra item of luggage - and weighs and costs twice as much. If GF wants to play WoW online, the netbook is a no-go. But my wife plays bridge and scrabble on line, gets all her email on the netbook, and Skypes her sister in the UK - sometimes all at once. Oh, and it costs MUCH less than an iPad...

I think the netbook will under pressure with more and more tablets coming to the market, however.

Thanks for all the comments guys, it does come with starter edition but i do have the full version so thats not a biggie
And its small n pretty n really light weight so netbook it is...
oh dionwired gives back a R 1000 voucher when you get a blackberry for R 149 pm so its gonna cost me R 1300 for a netbook, now that sounds like a super deal :))

those flippen tablets are crazy priced man...rip off for now...will give it some time to set a foothold on the market and get cheaper
 
Those pads are expensive, even Android ones they want R7k for it?
 
Win7 Starter isn't quite as bad a deal as you might think. The original crippled spec was loosened by the time it reached market. Seems quite a good fit in practice for the current generation of netbooks with their limitations on RAM, GPU, and CPU. Can run Office 2007 Home & Student. So don't rush to turn on a full version...
 
I wouldn't buy a netbook right now. Fusion is starting to hit the foreign markets so it shouldn't be too long before we see it here.

Hi do you have some more info on this (website maybe?). I might be going the same route pending W7 Starter improvements :whistle:
 
i bought my wife the ACER Aspire ONE, she's happy with it, and I even use it to download photo's too when on the road (so I guess I use it more than she does ;) )
 
If you can, try go for a 11" screen @ 1336x768 rather than a 10" @ 1024x600. Makes a world of difference. Oh, and put a better version of Windows on than starter ;)
