Buying new cellphone: do I notify Telkom?

My cell has broken and I need to buy a new one but I haven't done it in years and I'm not sure of the process.
I don't want to change my call contract with Telkom so can I buy a new device from Takealot and just insert my sim into the new phone or do I have to notify Telkom so they don't blacklist the phone?

If you have a very old SIM card, the size/form-factor may not be compatible with a new phone. In that case you will need to do a SIM swap, which can only be done at your mobile service provider.
