Hey there,

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, preferably an i5 because I want something quick. Its mostly for work so not looking for a gaming one. If anyone can suggest good stores to buy it from, where I can get it relatively cheap, I would really appreciate it.

What's your budget? "Relatively cheap" can mean anything... :p

Are you interested in gaming at all? The replacement for the Lenovo Y580 is coming end of this month - the Y500A. Pretty much the same specs as the Y580, but a GT650M instead of the GTX660M. Apparently the performance figures of the 2 discrete graphics cards are nearly identical in most cases... Specs are:
- Intel i7 3630QM (2.4GHz)
- 8GB DDR3 RAM (1600MHz)
- 1TB HDD (5400RPM)
- 2GB NVidia GT650M
- 15.4" HD (768p resolution)
- Back-lit chiclet keyboard

Real steal at around 10k-11k...

It's not a replacement per-se, the Y580 will still be sold. It's just a slightly differently configured laptop - Though I am really keen to see what the expansion bay can do, since you can slot a second 650m in it, and SLI them.

Either would be a steal if you can get the Full HD screen ( I picked up my y580 in Singapore, upped it to 16GB of RAM, and replaced the DVD bay with an SSD for my OS+apps. )

why replace the DVD when it has a slot for an mSata SSD?
Anyhow for R5500 not getting the Y580, but there are plenty enough laptops in that price range.

Makro have this nice Acer i5 spot on your budget and with a 3 year warranty you cant really go wrong here:

Wow, thanks a lot man, it sounds like a very good deal. I think I'll settle on that.

I would look for a laptop that has Intel HD graphics onchip, not the older variants that use a separate GMA chipset which is on the motherboard - preferably 3rd gen Intel Core i5 series (Ivy Bridge).
