Hi I just wanted to know if there was anyone on this forum that has personally bought a PC off an international website or someone that is quite knowledgeable about customs and VAT when importing ? and what other chargers apply once it has landed?

thanks

Is their anyway of not getting it considered PC parts, because I can live with the R1050 on my computer which is R7500 so even with the tax, it will be way cheaper than anything I have seen locally.

Here are the specs if anyones interested...

You could try www.wantitall.co.za they import stuff from the us.And all the vat and import tax and stuff is included in there prices you just pay for delivery from there office to your house unless you close enough to fetch it of course.

But some of there prices is a bit insane.

You don't want to do that. PC parts do not have any import duty so you want this.

Is that a Seagate Baracuda 7200.11 drive? If it is make sure to flash the firmware before it dies on you.

So I want to Classify it as PC parts? further up in the thread it says I must not label it as PC Parts.....

It does not say that, you are assuming that or reading between the lines for something that does not exist.

PC parts do not carry import duties but like all other imports there are handling fees involved, the 10% he was referring to.

If you classify it as something else you could be worse off, paying import duties + handling fees + vat as opposed to just handling fees + vat.

I just looked at the spec you posted and the identical system purchased from Syabritic (which is not the cheapest) comes to R7880 minus a case and PSU which at most will not exceed R1000. This could be done for cheaper if you shop around a bit and no need to compromise on component quality so local could/will be cheaper.
Edit: From PC Zone with a Gigabyte G31 motherboard you can get that PC for less than R7500.

As a matter of fact you can get a Core i7 PC for R8000 locally but not with the case you specified though & no GFX card (onboard only).

In all honestly I believe you are making your life difficult for yourself. After sales support will be costly if something does go wrong and it can happen. Gigagbyte MBs are very good but mine failed 3 weeks ago (in warranty) so things do happen.

At the end of the day however the decision & money is yours.

+1, I agree with ponder here.

For that price, and the extra costs and effort, you can just as well get the same (or similiar) in SA if you shop right.

Well, it's just my 2c worth... If you were importing a pair of Leica binoculars (for instance) (which I did) you can almost save up to R8k, but the for above quote I'll say, rather shop local for it.

Good luck!

Well you pay 10% on your goods if they are considered pc parts
well here it says that about the p.c. parts.

Thanks a lot for the help though as i was not aware that it was so cheap on sybaritic and could potentially save a lot of trouble..., I also tried to build a PC on sybaritic and my figure was not the same but yes obviously if you did find the exact same spec PC for R7800 I would purchase that, because a lot of trouble is gone...

Correct. There are things you import and things you don't. It boils down to how much you save at then of the day. I imported a digital camera yonks ago and that made sense as the landed price with duties and everything was still like almost half the local price.

Yes but you have to keep in mind that you pay a handling fee on all goods including PC parts, PC parts don't have duties though unlike other items.

I still have the components i my shopping cart (I think) from the costing so I will forward that to you a bit later.

Before I do that could you tell us what the intended use of this PC would be most of the time. There are some real properllar heads here that will be more than willing to help you put together a cost effective system (I don't mean selling you anything, just picking the right stuff).
