I would think the main thing to look out for in auctions is if the house is occupied by people that don't want to move and outstanding municipal debt that might become your responsibility.

Go look at the hidden costs in auctions.

You are responsible for 10% commission on top of the purchase price and in some instances you will be liable for all the Municipal arrears, bond arrears, legal costs and interest from date of auction. You will also be responsible for any Certificates of Compliance.

Rather buy a house where there are no nasty surprises.
