Hi guys,

So after buying a new graphics card I'd like to get some more ram for my pc...

I have a Asus P5K motherboard and on it's website it says:

Dual-channel DDR2 1066/800/667 MHz

I currently have 2 x 1 gig sticks.

I don't know what all the MHz numbers refer to so just asking which is better to get?

2Gb DDR2 1066MHz - R 374
2Gb DDR2 800MHz - R 259
2Gb DDR2 667MHz - R279

The 1066Mhz is quite a bit more than the 800MHz ones, is the difference in price justifiable in terms of the speed difference? I.e. is it better to get a 1gig 1066MHz stick as opposed to a 2gig 800Mhz stick for the same price?

Thanks...

Get the 800MHz ones, you won't notice the difference between 1066 and 800 trust me. Besides the price to performance ratio is way off it doesn't make sense to get the 1066 ones, btw I thought you knew more about Pc's

ONLY get the 1066 if you intend to overclock your pc in any way.

If you do want to see any noticeable performance increase, get two of them and run them in dual channel so you will have 2x2GB sticks on your motherboard, or get 2x1GB sticks if it's cheaper, usually it will cost more though.

I wouldn't recommend you get 1x2GB sticks if you are running Windows Vista/7, you might want to upgrade your ram later which will mean that you will waste the slot and have to sell the one ram stick, or you can keep it ect..

:p Na it just seems so I guess... :D
Plus I always like to ask the forums anyway to see what everyone else says...

I just bought 4GB (2 x 2GB DDR800) memory from take2 and it's on special there. So go check it out, ordered it on Wednesday, got it on Friday, they keep stock at the office because so many people are buying it. I think it's around R228 for 1 x 2GB, and if you buy 2 you get free delivery. So yeah. Just saying.

Cool thanks for the heads up...

I guess you referring to the "Samsung - DDR2 800Mhz 2GB - Desktop Memory" - R226... looks like a great price...

Yeah I'm referring to them, they suit me fine. I've bought some of them earlier, a couple of months ago and they've been running 24/7 on a local server for game hosting and they seem to be holding out fine.
