Buys Inc. - Pioneering South African law firn and one of the first firms to specialise exclusively in technology law. From its humble origins in a one bedroom flat in Sea Point, Cape Town, Buys Inc. grew into a national firm that advised South Africa's top ICT compaies.
In 2006, Buys Inc. became the first law firm to fully automate its operations, allowing its lawyers to work from any location at any time. The firm also operates the South African IT Law Blog.
Managing director, attorney Reinhardt Buys believes that technology allows law firms to offer new services in new ways. Often criticised for its outspoken and sometimes controversial positions, the firm often clashed with the Law Societies and traditionalists. At the end of 2005 Buys Inc. lodged a complaint against the Law Society with the Competition Commission. The firm believes that the legal profession should be free to advertise their services and offer legal services at lower rates than the prescribed rates of the Law Societies. Unconfirmed reports claim that the firm won its case against the Law Societies and that the Competition Commission simply awaits the gp-ahead from the Minister of Justice before its decision will be made public.
Buys Inc was closed in 2009 after Buys joined DT.
