I connected my HDPVR decoder with RCA cables to a tv in another room. I ran the cables through a conduit in the roof/wall. The picture is ok but the sound has a constant buzzing. What causes this and how can I solve it?

Thanks in advance people

how long is the RCA cable?

is there power cable running in the same conduit?

are these self made RCA cables?

-cable about 18m
- don't think there is a power cable in the conduit
- no

You tested cable in another tv/amp to test sound?
Could be the TV's rca plugs are damaged.

I've found some cheap RCA cables does this, but testing the RCA's on a different device should narrow out the possiblities

tested the RCA's on another AV port in front of the TV and there's no buzzing. This was however done with the cable running on the floor not thru the roof/conduit

try again as it is now.

either it is the TV's ports or the cable quality isn't great so it is picking up interference.

Does said buzzing sound like a 50 Hz hum? (i.e. 'that electricity sound')
Does the buzzing change in frequency/pitch or is it approximately constant?

Best case: cross-talk due to other cables in the conduit
Worst case: Your equipment be borked.

If the cable & equipment seem to be fine after testing, try adding an appropriate ferrite bead for your cable. It should clear up any high-frequency harmonic crosstalk.

Which cables are housed in the conduit you have rca's running in?
Get a better make cable that is shielded.
