BWM 320i and 320i Start differences?

Gotta disagree, I bought a 2004 BMW 320i and it goes like stink for a 2.2 litre engine. 8.2 seconds from 0-100. What more do you really need? And even faster (7.4) if I spent R5k chipping it.

The E46 320icame with a 6 cylinder engine so you can't compare it to the 4 cylinder E90 320i. Also, chipping a normally aspirated car is stupid and you'll be lucky to get 5Kw from a R5k chip, even on an M3.

Yes you can.

The new N46B20 (4 cylinder) engines in the x20i produces the same output @ 125 Kw/ 210Nm, than the M54B22 (6 cylinder) engine found in the E46 320i.

It seems BMW SA are too lazy to update their site, or are unaware of the changes themselves (wouldn't be surprised)

Proof:

Click 320i here on the BMW Global Site - 125kw/210Nm

And the 320i here on the BMW SA Site - 110kw / 200Nm

I'd say that's quite an improvement from the previous revision, and quite an impressive output for a 4 Cylinder engine.

With regards to the chip, depending on initial output, you can usually squeeze a bit more than 5 Kw out of a chip.. Especially on an M3.

Heard the 4 cylinder version has issues though (from a family friend whom I trust on BMW things). I know people who took a 325 over a 320 because of that. Apparently the 4c is getting replaced soon though because of the issues, not sure with what though. Very vague, I know.

Would be interested to find out more about this please.
Like any issues in particular?

Thanks

Whats the differences between these two? From looking at the web site they look identical.

The manual 320i start goes for 308k and the 320i goes for 324k

I'm listing things not available on Start ver which are available/optional on Standard

1. Navigation System not available and not optional
2. CD Changer (with MP3) not available and not optional
3. HiFi System not professional (you'll notice professional written on the other)
4. Upgradable USB/audio interface not available/optional
5. Automatic air condition not available (i think its climate control)
6. Some leather options on staring wheel not available (also the M leather)

That's all ...

Oh, if you sport a 320i with fog lights, xenon lights, auto this, auto that, know its extras which you pay more for.. normally its called exclusive

Can't really say more without speculating heavily cause I didn't hear the conversation itself, only saw the effect (buying 325 demo over 320 new) & heard a vague reference to it. Sounded like something related to occasional lag in power delivery.

Noticed something else (possibly unrelated to the above): Driving uphill & taking foot off accel and wait a bit for the car to lose momentum. Then accelerate again. Confuses the gearbox & takes a split sec longer than one would think to sort out which gear to use. Results in a slight but noticeable shuddering/jerking. Both 320 & 325 though. Apparently that might be fixable via software though.

sonxEr77: You'd also lose other options by as a result of that. e.g. Bluetooth phone functionality isn't possible (Pro Hifi)

BMW 320i = 115kw .. i own one :)

fact is a 320 without all the bells and whistles is fugly and expensive...

enjoying mine and not complaining ... I personally think VW Golf is more expensive for what is offers/worth ... The GTI price is much more pleasurable on a 320i with extras ... I don't buy a car for what i don use the most (power), i drive on a traffic most of my life time and safe more petrol. Space and comfort comes first, and 320i with 115 (on BMW) is good enough to accelerate on the hill or incline, trust me!

No offense but the 320i is a pathetic performer period. That's probably it's only flaw and I'd still consider buying it provided it's an M Sport model with xenons, 18" wheels and other goodies.

not bragging but mine has everything (i mean anything you can think of possible on a 320i) except the M Sport, maybe that's why am enjoying it ... I exchanged for a day with a friend driving a 323i M Sport, obviously enjoyed the power but the comfort ... could feel every single pothole .. he on the other hand enjoyed the difference in comfort and feel. If performance only mean more power (kw) then maybe you right but else is up to performance standards. And the 320i will never really disappoint when you need some bit of power for something (overtaking maybe, or climbing hill), not racing though...
