Just got wind that Bytes Technologies has an Industrial Strike today? Is this the first time an IT company goes on strike?

Sheesh, knowing what qualifies as normal in the IT world, conditions had to be pretty damn bad to push the people to the point of striking!

Whaahaha.... I know people who work there.

Bytes is actually quite big and cover a lot of industries. I rate that they have quite a lot of workers that do things like transport, logistics, warehousing, electrical and metal working.

So its quite possible that they have have weka's who want to strike

Union members, within the above-mentioned Company which specializes in
enterprise-wide information products and services, will soon be embarking
upon a protected strike arising out of a dispute concerning failure and/or
refusal by management to meet the Union’s demand for an end to all forms of
discrimination within the Company. The Company is a Division of the Bytes
Technology Group, a listed Company partly owned by the Kagiso Trust through
Kagiso Strategic Investments. Whilst the Company proudly boasts of its BEE
credentials, through its association with the Kagiso Trust, racial
discrimination is still the order of the day notwithstanding the Company’s
purported commitment to transformation.
At the heart of the current dispute is the demand for equal pay for work of
equal value as a mechanism to eradicate racially-based income disparities
within the Company. The so-called performance appraisal system is
systematically used to entrench these racially-based income disparities. The
Union has been accordingly demanding an adjustment of a mere 6% for
employees who had been prejudiced as a result of the so-called performance
appraisal system. The powers that be, within the Company, have demonstrated
their arrogance and contemptuous treatment, for workers and the Union, by
flatly refusing to meet this fair, reasonable and just demand.
Parties have already been to the CCMA for conciliation of this dispute of
mutual interests where the dispute remained unresolved due to the Company’s
intransigence. A certificate confirming the deadlock was accordingly issued
towards the end of June. All efforts aimed at finding an amicable settlement
have been frustrated by management thus leaving workers with no other option
but to plan a protected strike. The Union has since processed an application
for the establishment of strike and picket rules through the CCMA.
The Union remains open to genuine efforts aimed at finding a mutually
acceptable settlement to the current impasse.

Yeah, how dare the owners resist attempts at extortion. You know, if a mass of people are getting drastically underpaid relative to their productivity then they're a prime opportunity to get poached by a savy competitor, or to even go into business themselves. Of course these incredulous unions only have sway because their strikes are "protected" by the government. They're not interested in actually helping anyone, they just want to expand their power and increase their union dues.

Can someone please translate this into English please? I'm kinda on the slow side when it comes to New-SA-English...

They unhappy that some people are better than they are and want freebies or else they will formally stop working, which is different from normal because its formal.

meet the Union’s demand for an end to all forms of discrimination within the Company.

So the union wants them to scrap BEE?

Wonder if they have actual proof of this? Last time someone claimed something like this at a work place I lmao because they weren't really performing well enough anyway.
