So who has downloaded it and tried it? It weighs at around 1.17GB and have just installed it on my work PC.

It runs quite well on a X1650 card and is quite graphicaly enhanced and plays just like the predecessors. One nice touch in the quick skirmish I had was that now you build squads and not single units from the barracks.

Will dwelve more into the demo when I take it home. :)

It seems there are fans for keeping the same gameplay alive, although I hope it will at least strive for some perfections which can enhance the gameplay.

When comparing Supreme Commander to C&C 3 I can see that SC is more like a RTS Sim with more complex strategies and unit variation over a grand scale. C&C retains its "skirmish" approach to battles with a more simplified rock - scissors - paper approach. At times that is good but lacking diversity IMO.

Is a local site available that mirrors the file cause the link to the "outside world" is sh*t at the moment

Moonie

I've pre-ordered it for the Xbox 360, hehe, should be interesting when I get it. Only coming in like may though, so I will let you guys know.

Gonna be interesting playing an RTS with a gamepad.

I cringe at whats its going to be like selecting multiple units or assigning squad numbers.

As long as it doesn't play like Generals. I don't mind the 3D aspect, I just don't want it to play like Generals did - more like Tiberium Sun/Red Alert II would be awesome.

Got it and played it quite a bit, i cant wait for it to be released!
Feels just like a command & conquer should and the graphics are very good especially the animations, runs on ultra high @ 1280*1024 smooth as silk on a 7900GT, so im happy :)

Is the gameplay more like generals or more like Red alert 2?

Will have to wait till the demo comes on a demo disc or something :(

its like a 3d command & conquer 1, similar interface.

generals is not a C&C imo

I downloaded the demo at work...now I need to get it here so I can play it :) Downloaded it form www.greenlab.co.za.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'll go get it tomorrow and play for a while :D

OK, the big reason I still favour a PC over console is the fact that you cannot play proper strategy games on a console.

So I'd really love to know how it'll be possible to jam this on a eksd00s gamepad!

Boyz don't go burning your caps, a little bird told me it's on the PCFormat cover DVD for April :D

Now THAT is great news! It is exactly how I was hoping C&C 3 to turn out - a revamped version of C&C 1 with a new story line, new units, etc, but keeping the original feel of C&C 1. I loved everything about the original game - units, gameplay, sounds (remember the sounds the flamethrower tanks made and then the sounds that the infantry made when duying? :D )

C&C 1 and its expansion were the best of the series, in my opinion. The original "spirit" of the game somehow faded when EA took over, especially with Generals (not that Generals was a bad game, but it just did not have the same elements that I liked in the original).

Downloading it at the moment and can't wait for the download to finish!!
