Hi all,

I've got a virus on my computer which causes my C drive not to show.
What can I do??

Many thanks

Hey

Go to start, and go to search

Search for 'Computer Management'.

On the left hand side of 'Computer Management' go to

Storage and then to 'Disk Management'.

Now look if your C drive shows there.

Let me know..

Try Google for a program called Disk Heal. Run that, see if it works.

Otherwise try a free antivirus like AVG. Also Google it.

We can discuss payment for the information later... :)

Click Start->Run type in C:/ press enter. Should bring up your c:. Get a virus scanner anyways

OK.. she's got one messed up PC setup if her C drive doesn't show in Windows and its still booting into Windows...

Someone once helped my friend. They did something where you type something in Run.
Then you change a number somewhere, but she can't remember how...

Right click on my computer, Manage, Disk management. But that won't work in this situation as if you change C:'s letter, windows will go missing and pretty much all your installed applications will stop functioning.

Yep Disk Heal helped me as well. After a virus got cleared the effects still remained in registry which messed up my C:\ icon in mycomputer. Just downloaded Disk Heal...clicked a button in the program and it was fixed. Although I was certain the virus was gone in my case the virus may still be on your PC and Disk Heal probably won't work until you clear the virus.

If you happen to have a spare pc around or a friends you should update the antivirus software to the latest definitions put in your c drive into the spare pc clean the drive with the antivirus you should run antivirus about 3times just to be safe then once its clean put it back into your main machine get a copy of disk heal and run it.This should sort out the problem.

run it 3 times with the same definition file?... why would that be any more secure than running it once?

You won't be able to change your windows drive.

Well I could vouch for that if you're running something as k*k as Mcafee. It often says it clears the virus but the virus comes right back. Sometimes immediately and sometimes after a reboot. So running more than once is advisable in case the anti-virus doesn't successfully clear all files and registries of the virus.

Bah, easiest way to get rid of a virus:

Code:
format c:

:D

antivirus or the not, if any malware screws the registry in such a way i wouldnt bother fixing it but rather do a fresh install coz chances are there's much funkier things goin on under the hood

Yes, but back up everything and buy a decent antivirus SUITE first. Something like Kaspersky AV Suite can be had from Incredibles for a very decent price.

The C drive shows there...

It's when you go into My Computer that you can't see it...

Do you by any chance have the TweakUi utility on your computer?

If you see the C drive in the rest of windows but not in My Computer and you have TweakUi on your computer, go and switch it on in TweakUi. You will find TweakUi in the control panel.
Open it and go to the My Computer tab / drives and put a tick into the drives you want to see in the desktop My Computer.

Only a thumbsuck, but it could help.
