C2D core temps.

I am running a E6300, in an enermax CS-718 case with the windtunnel thingy installed. Using a Zalman CNPS9500 LED cooler. At stock, idle temps using Intel TAT (Thermal Analysis Tool) i get about 5-6 degrees above ambient temp. Under load that goes up to about 45-50 degrees.

Overclocked to 3.2, idle temp goes up to about 45-48, and under load I can hit around 55-60.

These temperatures are all with the case fans on maximum speed of 1400RPM.

BTW, what temperature is it safe to go with for the northbridge? When overclocking, it tends to hit quite high values (Got over 70 degrees a few times under load). I have the Temperature probe mounted into the Northbridge heatsink, in an area with no airflow (In the base where the cutout for the heatpipe is).

OK, I have managed to do some more testing.

My idle temps are sitting at ± 39°C, CPU fan @ ± 950 rpm, and case fans @ ± 670 rpm. http://www.gereg.co.za/CodeMaster/Images/Idle.JPG

What is worrying me is the fact that these tests where run in cool ambient temps, they are gonna get higher in warmer temperatures. I also thought that the case fans would go a bit higher as well, and it seems that SpeedFan does not support my Intel board. Is there any other program similar to SpeedFan that allows manual adjustment of CPU and case fans?

It seems that the Zalman CNPS9500 is a popular choice of coolers, maybe when my cash flow improves after all the expenditure, I might look at getting one. I will then re-do the thermal paste with some AS-5, just in case I am not getting good thermal transfer.

I am really worried that in hot weather, the core temps are gonna climb towards 70°C, which is too high for my liking. I think my problems are caused from bad contact between HSF and CPU, but I think I'll wait until I can get a decent cooler before re-doing the thermal paste. In the meantime, I will be looking for a way to bump up fan speeds.
 
If you go for the Zalman, do post your experience with it, especially on the installation. I really don't like the Intel stock cooling, the clips don't seat very well.

When using CoreTemp program it was aaround 10 degress off the real temp.It was idle at around 50 degress.Rather download the latest Intel Desktop utilities if you running a Intel mobo.My temps are now idle at around 38 /40 degrees.

That depends on what your current temps are.

Depends on cpu, psu, case cooling, cpu cooling, motherboard and of course luck, no chip ever overclocks the same as another.

Know of people getting 3.4 or so with a E6300 i am lucky if i can get 2.6 running stable with decent cpu cooling and case cooling.

One of my E6600's runs fine at 3.2 (8*400) and the other one struggles running at anything over stock (lousy motherboard i think) :p
