Anything sinister here ? Worked perfectly up until Friday and now the site is closed by CAA……..

Any other sites for aircraft register checking? We are at Lanseria weekly and loved checking owners etc of the planes coming and going ?

Knowing the CAA as I do, they will probably privatise it and charge a prescription.

Maybe something to do with people making a mountain out of a molehill with that Gupta plane rental...

Thought that might be the problem as well as the strange amount of planes that land here at very obscure hours of the night……..

Could even be POPI related...

Do not think it is Popi related. We received a letter that the implementation of Popi is delayed for another 2 years. They are now looking at appointing a commissioner by 2018. Once that person is appointed, he will engage with organizations before officially implementing it, so there may be more delays after 2018.

I tend to agree with you that this is in regards to aircraft ownership information. This is primarily where the media and public can get ownership information on aircraft. This is politically driven imo.

I purchased their registers before, so I have older copies. Will not help with newer aircraft though.

Never paid for any info ? Typed in the number and up came the type and owners name. Very handy when used with the point and click phone app.

No, I just regularly bought updated versions of their register (which was in Excel format). You had a lot more information in these files than what you had on their site. Info included finance information, finance institution account numbers, financing amounts, etc.

You could try Planelogger.

I have used it a few times to find the previous owners too, but unfortunately it doesn't have info for all the aircraft.

I use a website called planespotter I think it is called. It lists all aircraft owned by our big airlines, the make models and you can click on the reg number and see the complete history of the airframe and even what engines are mounted on it.

system failure/upgrade?

No, it was shut down by the CAA.
Probably someone important didn't like people being able to identify the Gupta's aircraft or other suspicious aircraft activity.

This site is no longer operational
As hosts of the online aircraft register, we enjoyed providing this service over the years to the industry.

This service was initially provided on request of the CAA to the aviation community. This week we have received a letter from the CAA to stop this service with immediate effect.

Avdex is unfortunately not able to provide our users any alternative solution to obtain access to the register data and apologize to our regular subscribers, who relied on the register information for the inconvenience caused.

I am sure you can check it still on international registers? Doubt the private owned little propeller planes, but jet aircraft like Embraers and Bombardiers should show up on international sites as they cross borders.

A lot of people used the website to identify the owners of light aircraft, helicopters, etc.
Like helicopters dropping into private game farms to do some "sight seeing" with a rifle.

crazy, isnt it supposed to be public knowledge around the world?

part of the FAA rules or ICAO part or something; to obscure or falsify them,
kind of like a car reg pate,

suppose they might want to paint over reg numbers here in SA, making some "black choppers"

You might have something there……….less said the better.

Sadly Planespotter and Planelogger both have never heard of South Africa…….:wtf:
