Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday announced a reshuffle of his cabinet during a special briefing at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Lindiwe Sisulu has been moved from the defence ministry to public service and administration to replace the late Roy Padayachee.

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is the new defence minister, while Sibusiso Ndebele has taken up her position as correctional services minister.

Public Enterprises Deputy Minister Ben Martins will replace Ndebele as minister of transport.

Sisulu is going to be pissed !

Hah, yeah. Public Service and Administration isn't really a glamorous portfolio. Oh well, another department Princess Sisulu can wreck.

I remember asking what qualifies Mapisa-Nqakula to be Correctional Services minister, and now she's in charge of defense?! What on earth qualifies her for that?! :erm:

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele and his deputy, Jeremy Cronin, have been shifted to other portfolios. Ben Martins, who was deputy minister of public enterprises, becomes transport minister.

Mr Cronin moves to the Department of Public Works as deputy minister.

Lindiwe Sisulu moves from defence to the Department of Public Service and Administration to replace Roy Padayachee, who died in April.

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula , who has been in charge of correctional services, goes to the defence portfolio, and Mr Ndebele becomes correctional services minister.

Mduduzi Manana, a national executive committee member of the African National Congress Youth League, has been appointed as deputy minister of higher education.

Hlengiwe Mkhize, formerly higher education deputy minister, becomes economic development deputy minister, filling a vacancy created by Enoch Godongwana’s resignation in December.

Sindisiwe Chikunga, chairwoman of Parliament's portfolio committee on police, is the new deputy minister of transport, and Gratitude Magwanishe, deputy chief whip of the ANC, has been appointed as deputy minister of public enterprises.

Good to see Mduduzi, an anti Malema cde, being appointed to the post of deputy higher education minister. He must keep an eye on Blade Nzimande since he has the tendency to make public speeches about issues that do not concern him instead of focusing on higher education.

I've heard nothing but good things about our new police chief, so I wish her all the best and hope she succeeds in making the police service something to be proud about.

Happy with Cronin being moved to the Public works department as deputy head. He and Nxesi will fix the mess at the department most definitely.

You're new to South Africa ? ;)

:cry:

Hmm, he was probably appointed as a reward for being anti-Malema/pro-Zuma. Not sure why you think he'd be able to keep Nzimande in check, though. Ol' Blade loves babbling about all sorts of nonsense, don't think this will change any time soon.

Why do you rate Cronin highly? I like what I've seen from Nxesi so far, but Public Works is in such a dismal state it will take a miracle to fix.

Surely one idiot to another idiot to the village idiot. Help me?

Was all this Whoo Ha because JZ didnt have the balls to fire 1 blithering idiot?

I can not understand where the logic behind this comes from, SURELY as minister of a specific field you should be expressly qualified in the field you preside over?! How can someone go from transport minister to running correctional services in the blink of an eye?! Wouldn't they need to be qualified in some way to manage the tasks they will now have to deal with?

anc logic:
1) anc?
=>you qualified.

2) connection with jz?
=>you have the job.

:)

They dont NEED to be as they are just the political heads of that department and are not operationally involved. Thats what the DG and the rest are for...

well, fresh blood in Police could be good, especially with a good manager, IF she surrounds herself with good "police" people.
She may be a good manager but even Scooby Doo has more policing and crime investigation experience :-)

With all these minister and job shuffles, these guys at the top, who continually get put in with no experience of their dept, must probly be in training most of the time, instead of doing the job?

Pity that JZ continues to show that he is king of wasted opportunities.... he has the power right there in his hands to put in gov really good, experienced people, who can really fix things
alas...

No, it does not work that way. A minister is the political head of a department. At best, she needs management skills. She definitelty does not need to have technical knowledge of the particular portfolio she holds. It would of course help not to be totally clueless.
