Tests done by Broadband Choices, a UK website which helps consumers compare broadband services, reveal that cable connections are outperforming ADSL in the speed department.
Broadband Choices reports that 31 percent of cable customers receive at least 75 percent of their advertised speed compared to an abysmal 7 percent of ADSL customers.
In SA this has been a big bone of contention between operators and consumers because at the end of the day the general public is left wondering why their advertised 4 Mbps service is only chugging out a few hundred kbps.
In the UK, the cable services are not only offering speeds which are closer to the advertised theoretical speeds but they are also offering more reliable speeds.
According to the tests done by Broadband Choices, 37 percent of ADSL customers received less than a quarter of their promised speed, only 16 per cent of cable customer “enjoyed” such poor speeds for August-September.
