Don't know what its called, but it seems to have snapped. How difficult is it to replace and can I get one at any spares shop?

Not really my car. Its a Hilux bakkie though and you cant open it with a key.

Im realy taking a shot in the dark here but im guesing its simialr to the cable used on bicycle brakes?
Its exactly the same yes. The part from the lever you pull inside the car I managed to pull out. Now it snapped somewhere in the middle as it leads to the petrol cap (that part should still be attached).

Cool, will pop in at Midas later. At least now I know its name :p

obviously you will now have to sell this malfunctioning car OP. if you cant put fuel in its useless. dont mention this fault to the new owner though. might complicate the sale...
