I currently have:

dish with dual LNB
2 x 4 multiswitch
two HD2P PVRs with Xtraview enabled

I'd like to add a 1131 decoder to the setup to be able to tune to the 'free to air' audio channels not available on the HD2P decoders (e.g. Radio Pretoria).

Should I replace the 2 x 4 with a 2 x 6 multiswitch? or can I insert a 5-2250MHz splitter before the 2 x 4 multiswitch and run a single co-ax from there to the 1131?

If I use the splitter, should the DC power pass connector feed the multiswitch or the 1131?

If both the multiswitch and the splitter solutions will work which is better, and why?

tnx

A splitter, on one of the lines between the LNB and switch, will be fixed to one polarity. Either V (13V) or H (18V), depending on which line you split. The radio channels could be on both polarities, so you want the input to the single decoder to be switchable... This means you have to upgrade the switch to a 2x6.

Quantum Theory

Thanks, I get the point. But if I knew which polarity I needed for the specific station I wanted to tune to, I could use a splitter on the appropriate line, right? And then which leg of the splitter should go to the decoder and which to the multiswitch?

If you are sure it is only on one polarity, you can do it that way. Power pass to the switch. If you tell me which channels, I can check for you tomorrow.

Great - quite a difference in price for the equipment.

There are really just two stations I'd be interested in at this stage: Radio Pretoria and RSG. When I last used my (original) Dual-View and subsequently the 1131, I remember having to jump through the proverbial hoop to get Radio Pretoria. RSG required minimal setup to appear.

Thanks for the offer!

Edit: Looks like they're all Vertical. (http://www.tracksat.com/satellite3-deg.html)

RSG is on vertical low, but Radio Pretoria is on vertical high. DStv only uses the low band, so the 2 lines into the switch is VL and HL. VH is now a 3rd polarity and will cause clashes on any of the setups you suggested. You would have to get a quad LNB and run a third line from the dish to the 1131.

@Quantum Theory: I hadn't known about VL and HL and VH. So one learns. Thanks!

@warwickw: My research reveals that Ellies lists a receiver, model RF71.

@smurfatefrog: I'm aware of problems tuning a 1131, but I fortunately have an old Dual-View to reconstitute if necessary. Thanks though, sure something to bear in mind.

I will use for that an octa lnb

Then you need 5 cables between the LNB and decoder positions... They already have a switch, so a quad is perfectly fine, with only 1 additional cable from the dish, instead of 3 with an octo. Also, cost is less.

have a chess 7100 ci free to air sat decoder which i dont need any longer.
it works perfect and with the right cam module u can use it also for dstv.
when someone is interested, make a offer.
